This is a question I get asked a lot. There is the saying that a plumber has a leaky tap and a builder has a wonky house!
So what is the truth?
My house is definitely organised. Everything has a place and I have systems. Being tidy is admirable and I would love my flat to be tidy. But I am also a big fan of efficiency, and being tidy isn’t always efficient. If you always put things away, that’s a lot of time spent putting things away. If you’ll use it soon, you might keep it out on a table, in the hallway or on your desk. I certainly do! But come the weekend, I go on a tidy frenzy, and calm is restored!
Plus I live in a flat, so space is at a premium. And living with other people means that you are also dependent on whether they are tidy or not. I will say no more on that! I have a home office there where many things come in from clients’ homes in order to leave at a later date (think shredding, food bank, scrap store, Olio listings). Those items take up space that doesn’t exist, so they are definitely not tidy.
Is it a comfort to know that I’m a human being and not perfect? I hope so!
